Assistant Job Description – Permanent Part-Time

This position requires the successful employee to work Tuesdays to Saturdays, 11am to 4pm. It is suitable for someone who would like to work on a part time basis. It is a permanent position. Summer hours are subject to change to extend hours for adoptions.

Qualifications: ● Responsible individual, committed to the mission of the Drumheller & District Humane Society. ● Must be physically capable and able to carry out job duties in an efficient and thorough manner. ● Education and/or extensive experience in animal care and handling a definite asset. ● Good observation and reporting skills ● Ability to work with others as part of a team. ● Own transportation is an asset.

  • Constant physical contact with cats and dogs (occasionally) of different sizes, breeds, and temperaments.
  • Shelter needs to be constantly maintained.
  • Experience with word, excel, basic computer skills.
  • To be flexible in a busy environment and experience handling cash.

Reports directly to the Shelter Coordinator & DDHS board.

Courteous Interactions with the public.

Priority in the supervision of cats, observing and reporting wellness of every animal.

Feeding/Administering Medications – and getting felines to vet appointments.

Ensure the safety and security of animals within the shelter at all times.

All aspects of paperwork involving, surrender, transfer, foster, adoptions, activities and events.

Finding loving, forever homes for our furry friends.

Data entry.

Seeking out and applying for grants and funding.

To help with Cleaning/Disinfecting of indoor shelter area and keeping front reception area clean and organized.

Successful and thorough completion of assigned job duties within reasonable time limits. Reliability and diligence in position.

Successful applicant will be asked to provide a criminal record and child welfare check.
